Outdoor Pendant Lighting Styles

Outdoor Hanging Lanterns

If you’re looking to add a classic style pendant light to enhance the period features of your property, we have a large range of traditional hanging lantern lights to choose from. Lantern pendant lights, much like wall lanterns , are a perfect fit underneath a porch to illuminate a doorway and underline the period aesthetics of older buildings. Despite having a classic finish and appearance, our hanging lanterns are built using modern technology, meaning they are able to use energy-efficient LED bulbs and are resistant to the elements.

Weather Resistant Hanging Lights

All of our exterior pendant lights, as well as the rest of our outdoor lighting collections, are weather-resistant and have an IP rating. The IP rating, or the “Ingress Protection” rating, is a measure of how well the item is protected against water and dust particles which could damage it. The minimum IP rating for outdoor lighting is IP 44, which means that the light is able to withstand water splashed from all directions and larger solid objects.

If the pendant light is hanging beneath a roof or porch, the light fixture is less likely to be rained on, so a higher IP rating is not as necessary.

Coastal Corrosion Protection

If you live in close proximity to the coast, seawater and salty spray is will corrode materials over time. Stainless steel is much more resistant to the salt, so our stainless steel outdoor pendant light is a good choice if you’re close to the coast.

Hanging Outdoor Lights

Exterior hanging lights are usually fixed underneath a porch or a canopy. Unless you are competent with mains wiring, we recommend consulting a registered electrician to install your outdoor lighting.

In the case of outdoor hanging lights, firstly you must ensure the overhead structure can support the weight of the light. The light will come with a set of fittings and instructions on how to hang the light.
