What Is the Difference Between a Pedestal Light And a Post Light?

A pedestal light is a lot shorter than a post light or bollard as it is intended to be placed on the top of a pillar, or a raised platform like a wall. Unlike a lamp post light, a pedestal lamp is intended to be positioned on top of something, as opposed to being in the ground. An exterior pedestal light is generally between 30cm and 50cm in height.

Where To Use Pedestal Lights

Pedestal lights can be used almost anywhere, which is why they are a popular choice for lighting exterior spaces, here are some of the ways you can use them. Lighting on top of a wall is especially useful if the path is too narrow for a wall light.

Walkways

If you’ve got a wall running alongside a pathway, you could add one or several pedestal lights on top of it to brighten the pathway when it gets dark. 

Driveways

Brighten your driveway to ensure you can navigate your home safely. Using outdoor LED pedestal lights are an easy way to add a bright light to the top of plinths and ledges without adding a tall or obtrusive object in the way of your vehicle.

Garden

Brighten dark areas of your front and back garden to add an aesthetic light to welcome visitors and illuminate decorative features such as archways or decking. Garden pedestal lights work especially well on low walls leading up to an entrance or small columns on garden pathways.

All of our pedestal lights can be fitted with one of our PIR sensors to detect movement. On top of this, using a motion sensor will also save you money on your energy bills, as the light will turn off when it is not necessary.
